Mgt 491 Case Turn-in

This is the place! Just step right up and mail from this convenient mail drop.

All you need to do is attach your document to my self-addressed (stamped) envelope and away it goes into the wild blue yonder.

First Time Users Read me for step by step instructions.

I am ready to Submit my case assignment.

I know what I am doing, take me to the case assignments.

Remember:

1)Name the document you are sending.

You have to name your file with your last name and the title of the case assignment. The name cannot be longer than 8 characters (though if your computer adds a 3 letter suffix, like ".doc," that's okay). The first (up to five) characters must be your last name. The last two characters must be the case designation (i.e., c7, c8, etc.).

For example, if I turn in the "Wal-Mart" case, which is case 7, I would name it "goodsc7."

If you haven't done that yet, go back and do it now.

2) Use the default extension of .doc or Normal.

3) Close your word processing software.

You do not need it. You will pull the case assignment document from your disk or hard drive when you attach it using Netscape.

You must use Netscape 1.1N or 2.0 World Wide Web browser to submit you papers. You can use the WSU-V computer lab or service provider. If you have Teleport or Pacifier, you may download Netscape from here and install it on your home computer.

To Submit:

Please be aware that different versions of Netscape (i.e., 1.1 vs 1.2. vs 2.0b1 vs. 2.0b5, and then mac vs. windows vs. windows 95) vary from each other somewhat. It may require you to vary slightly from the instructions below, but just in terms of where buttons and tabs appear in the boxes. Just think it through.

  1. Check your Netscape settings. Look under the Options menu:News and Mail Preferences.

    You want to have:

    • Composition-MIME Compliant
    • Servers (SMTP)-thrain.vancouver.wsu.edu
    • When you are done, click on OK at the bottom.

  2. Farther down this page, you will find the title of the case assignment you want to mail.Click on the title of the case assignment to submit it.

  3. When the mail form appears please write in the "Subject" line your last name, and then write your full E-mail address. This is essentially your return address label, so include it.

  4. To attach your case assignment, click on the "Attach" button at the top of the form. An attachment box will appear.

  5. Now click on the "Attach File" button. Make sure you click the "attach file" button and NOT the "attach document" button. A box will appear that shows the files on your computer. On some pc's you may not see a file directory box. In this case, select the file option in the box and then click on a "browse" button.

  6. This is the step when you go get your case and attach it.

  7. To find your case, look on your disk or desktop. If you are using a student lab computer and submitting from a diskette, it should be on drive A. Click the "open" button. The file box disappears, leaving the attachment box. Your case name should appear in the attachment box. If it does....

  8. Click the "ok" button. The attachment box disappears, leaving the E-mail form box.

  9. Click the "SendNow"or "Send" button and your case (which is now called a file) is mailed to finden@vancouver.wsu.edu.

How to save your document using Microsoft Word (with PC Windows or Macintosh)

Before you can mail your case assignment through Netscape, you have to save your document in your word processing software with the proper name and extension. Then close your file and exit the softwear. This is how to save your document:
  1. Chose "Save as..." under the File option at the top of your screen

  2. With a PC, change the "File Name" ( "Save Current Document as:" with a Mac) to the first 5 letters of your last name followed by " c# " ( the "#" stands for the variable of the case being turned in:case 7 would be called "c7" case 8 would be called "c8" and so on).

  3. Change the "Save File as Type:" to .doc or Normal.

  4. With a PC, change the "Drives" to the drive that you are working out of: drive "a" if you are working with a 3.5 disc in the Vancouver computer lab. With a Mac, change the "desktop" option to your disk.

  5. You are ready to save, so click on "OK", or "Save," or just press enter.

  6. Great, now close the file so you can E-mail it using Netscape. Note that, if upon closing the file the computer asks you to save your paper one more time, JUST SAY NO!

  7. Wordperfect users: It works the same way. Choose the "save as..." option and change the format from wordperfect to "Export RTF".
