Mgt 491: Retrieving GradedPapers


How to transfer your graded attached documents from Pine to your personal directory, or disk, using FTP or Fetch.

Note that, unless your are skilled at ftp, you must use the Pine E-mail software in the computer lab to retrieve your graded papers.

A. Save the Attachment

  1. Open pine. Click here for instructions on UsingPine.

    open inbox

    choose the line, using your arrow button, that says from "David Finden" and press enter.

    by using the arrow, move the highlighted bar to the line with the largest kb file, designated by: "## kb lines Text"

    choose "s" for save the file to your directory

    change the name of the file. Make sure you change only the file name: do not change the directory paths (i.e.,any thing to the left of the right-most slash"/"). To change the filename, delete it using the delete key and name the returned assignment something that is meaningful to you. Maybe something like the name of the company that the case was about: Hewlett. Remember to stay within eight characters long.

    press enter

    "e" for Exit viewer

    "o" for other commands

  2. and then "q"uit and close your account by typing exit at the last prompt.

B. For PC users with Windows, transfer your document to your own directory or to your own disk using FTP.

Double click on the "FTP" icon in the WSU-V Telecom Utilities window. A box will appear asking you what"host" computer you want to connect.

Students at WSU-V see and write:

"Name:" WSU Vancouver

"Ho st:"vancouver.wsu.edu

"Type:" UNIX(default)

"UserID:" (your Pine Login name)

"Passwd:" (your Pine password)

Press enter or click on "OK" and away we go...

How are you doing?Okay, I hope. We are almost there, 5 more minutes....

  1. On the left side, under "Local PC Info", click on [-a-] or to whatever drive you want to save your file. If you use a student lab computer, you must choose [-a-] to work with your 3.5 diskette.

    Now click on ChgDir

    Check to see if "Binary" has a black filled in circle, if not, click on the circle.

    Now in the white box, that is in the lower right-hand corner, scroll down (keep scrolling) to find your file. It should have that meaningful name your just called it.

    Click on it to highlight it.

    Now click on the arrow, located between the two white boxes, that is pointing to the left, hence to your directory. Your files have now transferabled to your disk.

    Good, now you are ready to view it in your word processing softwear.

    Go ahead and click on "Exit"located in the lower right-hand corner of the gray box.

  2. Open Word or WordPerfect and then open your file. You may have to change"Drives" to the Drive you just transfered your file to, such as "a."

C.Mac Fetch users, take these steps to find your paper.

  1. Find Fetch by using the find feature under the File menu. Click on File, pull down menu, and release ofFind.

  2. Type Fetch, and click on find.

  3. Double click on Fetch to activate.

  4. Fill out the box with this information:

    "Host:"vancouver.wsu.edu

    "UserID:" (your Pine Logon name)

    "Password:"(your Pine password)

    "Directory:" (you want this blank)

    Click on OK

  5. Click on the Binary option at the bottom, in the middle of the window.

  6. Scan down to your saved file and double click omit.

  7. Now find your diskette that is probably under desktop, and click on open.

  8. Click on save.

  9. Click on Close Connection.

There that's all it takes. Now share this information with other students and enjoy your new skills.
